Sustainability is only achievable if we all work together. We believe that culture can inspire transformative change through engagement, education, and leading by example. We want to translate our Ki Books, step-by-step guides on how cultural professionals can practice environmental and social sustainability, into 16 of the most commonly spoken languages in the world to ensure that everyone, everywhere has access to effective resources and solutions.
Sustainability affects everyone, and we all have a part to play for a just and green future. However, making this change can feel overwhelming or impossible. Ki Culture created the Ki Books which illustrate practical solutions. But they are currently only available in English, which leaves out over 80% of the world. Sustainability is not just for native english speakers or for western cultures. Resources and solutions must be accessible to everyone-and therefore available in many languages.
Translators Without Borders is an incredible organization that breaks down barriers of language by providing translations of materials for nonprofits. By partnering with this organization, we will have access to translators to help us transform our Ki Books into multiple languages so that people all over the world can engage and take action. Partnership requires an application (for which we have been approved already!) and an annual donation. We are raising funds for this annual donation!
The Ki Books are the first step in transforming the cultural sector, which has a unique role to play in engaging the public with sustainability. Where facts and statistics can fall short in driving real change, connecting on a human level and creating empathy and understanding is the key to the paradigm shift needed for a sustainable future. By committing to these themes and practices into everyday operations and educational programming, culture can be a real driving force for our future.
