This project will build the 10th turf field inside of a prison in Argentina. Through rugby, Fundacion Espartanos naturally fosters: the spirit of overcoming obstacules, promotes social integration, providing a sense of belonging and, transmits emotional management skills. Our programs help reduce the recidivism rate from 65% to less than 5%, transforming the lives of incarcerated men and women through sports, education, spirituality and integration into the workforce. There are more than 3000.
Overcrowding in prisons narrow the existential horizon to the mere survival. In most pavilions, psychopharmaceuticals are consumed to escape states of depression or anxiety. Additionally, all inmates arrive with deteriorated or broken family bonds. They possess formal education below the country's average, lacking fundamental tools of self-awareness, personal development, and interpersonal connections. This makes subsequent social and occupational integration very unlikely.
The mission of Fundacion Espartanos is to transform the lives of individuals deprived of their liberty for effective social and occupational integration. Rugby serves as the initial step towards social integration by instilling the values of sports and healthy habits, fostering emotional management skills, and providing a sense of belonging. Fundacion Espartanos built 9 turf fields within prisons, with each expansion the number of participants multiplied by 10, reaching 3,000.
The initial impact is a decrease in violence within the prison environment, facilitated by the fact that the participants (Espartanos) reside together in the same pavilion. They adhere to stringent coexistence regulations, such as refraining from violence and theft, peaceful conflict resolution, and more. Rugby in addition to spirituality, education, and employment impact in a change of minds and hearts that allows a significant reduction in the recidivism rate from 65% to less than 5%.
