Transforming the lives of rheumatic patients

On behalf of everyone at Fundación Maritere, thank you for your continued generosity and trust. Your support through GlobalGiving is helping ensure that people living with rheumatic diseases can access the medical care, treatment, and support they need to improve their quality of life.

From May through August 2026, thanks to your contributions, Fundación Maritere provided care to 90 patients living in vulnerable circumstances. During this period, our multidisciplinary team delivered 113 rheumatology consultations, and 230 physiotherapy sessions, offering comprehensive care that addresses both the physical and emotional challenges of chronic illness.

Your donations also made it possible to provide medications and treatment supplies to patients who otherwise would have faced significant barriers to accessing their prescribed therapies. These medications are essential for controlling disease activity, reducing pain, preventing disability, and helping patients maintain their independence and daily activities.

Behind the Numbers: Elizabeth's Story

Behind every consultation, therapy session, and medication delivered is a person whose life is being transformed. One of those people is Elizabeth, a 24-year-old patient living with both Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus who joined Fundación Maritere this year.

When Elizabeth first arrived at Fundación Maritere, her condition had become severe. She could no longer walk independently or bathe herself and needed assistance simply to get out of bed, sit down, or stand up.

Through the comprehensive care she received—including rheumatology, physiotherapy, psychological support, nutrition counseling, and access to essential medications—Elizabeth began experiencing significant improvements within her first months of treatment.
