NAPAD launched a fundraising campaign to provide sustainable access to safe and clean water for vulnerable communities in Waranqara Village, Mandera County, Kenya. The initiative seeks to establish a reliable solar-powered water pumping system that addresses critical water shortages while improving the health, wellbeing, and resilience of the community. Access to clean water will generate far-reaching social and economic benefits. Families will save significant time previously spent collecting water, enabling children, particularly girls, to spend more time in school and reducing absenteeism. Women will have greater opportunities to engage in income-generating activities, participate in community leadership, and dedicate more time to family care.
Mandera County lies within Kenya's arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL), where recurrent drought cycles, climate variability, and limited infrastructure investment have left communities like Waranqara Village underserved in water access. Households currently rely on seasonal pans, distant boreholes, or trucked water.
The project will also improve public health by reducing incidences of acute watery diseases that disproportionately affect children, older persons, and caregivers. Reliable access to safe drinking water will also strengthen hygiene and sanitation practices, contributing to better overall health outcomes.
Beyond the immediate humanitarian benefits, the intervention will enhance long-term community resilience by supporting household water needs, livestock production, food security, and local economic development through a sustainable and dependable water supply system.
As of the reporting period, the campaign had raised USD 29 against a fundraising target of USD 159,032, leaving an outstanding funding gap of USD 159,003. NAPAD invites donors to support this initiative and help close the remaining funding gap for the community of Waranqara Village.
