The past October we started a new scholar year 2014-2015 in all our 15 centers in Venezuela. We are pleased with the results of our last year especially for the social and political challenges we have faced as a country.
At the beginning of 2014, Venezuela went through difficult times when massive public protest took over the streets. Unfortunately, with violence. In order to keep safe our staff and students, we closed our centers several days. By March 2014, we recovered our daily routine, which means we really started our activities three months after our programming. Besides this specific point break in our year, we have also faced a sustained increase in our inflation rates. This means we have to accomplish every task and goal with at least half of the money we expected. It has not been an easy year at all!
However, we are very aware that our work can bring the change Venezuela needs. And we keep with our goal reaching new communities all over the country. In 2013-2014, we attended over 3500 people in our centers and we offered over 40 different courses for our communities, including new proposals from our allies, like the TV Technical course with Venevision. Also we are strenghtening our collaboration with another social development NGO like Senos Ayuda (Breast Help), they are in charge of helping breast cancer patients in Venezuela, and they rock! Also we have great experiences wih Cargill and Diageo and their social program Learning for Life.
For the new scholar year, we are expecting to work with three new communities in Venezuela and create new courses for all our students. Right now, we are preparing for Holiday season and we expect to have our first certification ceremony before December 15th.
Thank you for your support and understanding. Together we are creating a better place for all of us.
