Sadly, we mourn the passing of Belinda S.,from HIV/AIDS. Belinda was in Grade 5. She would have been about 10 years old. Both Belinda'S parents died from HIV/AIDS and she was born with the disease. Belinda was being treated, but it would appear that poor medication management and lack of adequate nutrition in her maternal grandmother’s home contributed to her death.
This is why we are so passionate about education. Education is a key factor in reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS as well as poverty. Thousands of nameless girls are easy to forget about. They are just figures. But one little girl, whose name we know, makes it personal. How many Belindas will die before we take action?
