This project supports the Good Food Institute's work to fight climate change, reduce animal suffering, and protect biodiversity by transforming how the world produces protein. By advancing sustainable alternatives to industrial animal agriculture through science, policy, and industry engagement, GFI drives systemic change. Independent charity evaluator, Giving Green, estimates every $2.98 donated to the Good Food Institute helps avoid 1 metric ton of CO2e emissions.
Industrial animal agriculture is a leading driver of climate change, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and zoonotic disease risk. It contributes significantly to global greenhouse gas emissions while straining land, water, and public health systems. Communities worldwide, especially those vulnerable to climate shocks and food insecurity, are increasingly affected by extreme weather, rising food costs, and unstable supply chains tied to this system.
The Good Food Institute accelerates sustainable protein solutions that can replace emissions-intensive animal agriculture. We fund open-access research, support scientists and entrepreneurs, advocate for public investment and fair regulation, and equip food companies to scale plant-based, cultivated, and fermentation-derived proteins. By transforming how protein is made, we address climate, biodiversity, animal welfare, health, and food security challenges at their source.
By advancing sustainable protein worldwide, this project helps reduce global greenhouse gas emissions, protect ecosystems, decrease reliance on industrial animal agriculture, and strengthen long-term food security. As governments, businesses, and researchers adopt climate-friendly protein solutions, we move toward a more resilient global food system that benefits people, animals, and the planet for generations.
