Dear GlobalGiving Community,

Thank you for helping us keep children in class with the tools they need to learn. Because of you, 20 vulnerable pupils at St. Ebenezer Nursery and Primary Community School in Bwaise will start next with hope in their hands.

Last week our team visited St. Ebenezer Nursery and Primary Community School in the slums of Bwaise, Kampala, Uganda to support children most at risk of dropping out. We donated 100 exercise books and 20 mathematical sets to pupils whose parents cannot afford basic school supplies.

For many of these children, missing a book means missing lessons. Missing lessons means falling behind. Falling behind often leads to early marriage, especially for girls. Your support changed that this week.

A 12 year Primary 6 pupil, received a dozen exercise books and a mathematical set. She mentioned “Now I can do all my homework and practice maths every day. I want to become a teacher so I can help other children,” she told us with a smile.

Another Primary 5 pupil, got half a dozen books. He had been sharing two book for all his class subjects. He said “I am happy I now have my own books to write in, thank you Joy for Children Uganda.”

Another Primary 5 pupil at St. Ebenezer also received half a dozen books and two ballpoint pens. Her mother sells vegetables in Bwaise market. “My mum was worried about books, and buying me a uniform. Now I can concentrate in class instead of worrying,” she shared.

These are not just supplies. They are a reason to stay in school. When children have books and pens, they attend more, participate more, and see a future beyond early marriage and poverty.

That is the heart of our Sponsor a Child Campaign.

Thanks to your generosity this month, your funds supported;

  1. Buying learning materials; 100 exercise books and 20 mathematical sets for 20 pupils at St. Ebenezer.
  2. Transport for our volunteer project team to have a short talk with pupils on staying in school and having career guidance talks with the young children.
  3. Teacher coordination to track attendance and performance of supported children

All donations were spent on reaching children. We commit to use every dollar with care and remain accountable.

In the coming month, we want to expand the campaign to 1 more school in Bwaise and 2 schools in Mulago suburbs and reach 60 additional vulnerable children, conduct follow-up mentorship sessions on education, life skills, and the dangers of school dropout.

We also want to enroll 10 top performing pupils across the 3 schools on long term sponsors through the Sponsor a Child Campaign.

With your help, these children are choosing classrooms over the streets.

Thank you for investing in their future.

With gratitude,

The Team at Joy for Children Uganda.
