In the Alagados favela, extreme poverty makes children easy prey for drug gangs and violence. The "Ser Criancas em Alagados" (SCEA) project acts as a vital shield for 100 vulnerable children. We provide a daily safe haven, nutritious meals, and education to keep them off the dangerous streets and prevent them from falling into the cycle of trafficking and crime.
Children in Alagados (Salvador) face a triple threat stealing their childhood: extreme hunger, gang violence, and educational failure. Many arrive at our center faint from hunger, unable to focus. The streets, controlled by drug traffickers, are dangerous playgrounds where unsupervised kids are easy prey for recruitment. Without safe spaces and support, these children are trapped in a brutal cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and violence, with little hope for a better future.
SCEA acts as a vital shield for 100 vulnerable children. We tackle root causes directly. Nutrition: We provide two nutritious meals daily (breakfast & soup), as no child can learn on an empty stomach. Education: We offer daily tutoring and supplies to ensure literacy and prevent dropouts. Safety: Through sports and arts, we keep kids off the streets, teaching teamwork and values that armor them against the daily influence of local drug gangs.
We are not just feeding children; we are building autonomous adults. By securing basic needs today, we empower them to break the generational cycle of poverty. Proper nutrition prevents chronic health issues. Academic support ensures they finish school, giving them keys to access professional jobs instead of falling into crime. These children will grow up to be responsible leaders who will transform the Alagados community from within.
