This project is focused on breaking down the boundaries that exist between intellectually impaired individuals and the mainstream labour market. It provides these young adults with the skills and tools they need in order to successfully integrate into the modern work place. A big part of our mission is to subvert the stereotypes and stigmas that hinder and prevent both impaired and unimpaired individuals alike from working, interacting and living together in a harmonious and value adding way.
In mainstream society there is a very real barrier that exists between intellectually impaired individuals and the work place. An estimated 99% of disabled people are excluded from employment in the open labour market, yet people with intellectual disabilities are able to provide unskilled/semi-skilled labour, can be trained to cope with highly skilled manual labour and are able to add value as well as anyone else.
The Adult Integration Programme is tailored to intellectually impaired young adults. Individuals who have gone through the special schools system and have found that there are very few options that exist for expanding their knowledge. This project will provide these individuals with the skills and tools they need to successfully enter the mainstream labor market and begin a process of reintegration that will expand the horizons of impaired and unimpaired individuals alike.
The long term effect of this project goes far beyond just economics. Individuals that come through our organisation are given a chance at a life that everyone, including themselves, never thought they could have. Our long term goal for every individual that attends our course is independence. Financial independence, social independence and eventually complete and sustainable independence.
