We have continued the engagement of men and boys across the different FGM hotspot counties in Kenya. Our latest interventions have focused on building the movement of men and boys in Samburu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kajiado, and Wajir Counties. Within the last three months, we have reached an additional 150 influential men in the communities through dialogues and sensitization, additionally, 200 youth and boys have been sensitized not only on the importance of supporting the quest to eradicate harmful practices but also speaking up on menstrual hygiene which is considered a taboo topic in the majority of the communities we work in.
Apart from new trainees, the previously trained champions have continued to spread the good message across their communities and there has been immense positive feedback from different people who have interacted with them. Recently we got feedback from a mission team that visited Elgeiyo Marakwet County after a police officer was killed while rescuing girls from FGM. Our previously trained men had exhibited lots of restraint and they were deemed role models in this community. They are currently being used by both the government and other civil society organizations in this area to spread the end FGM message.
