Permaculture Training Transforms Communities and Empowers Women
By Gillian Wilson | Project Leader
Permaculture training has transformed communities working with ASHA in Nepal. The current program for training and designing permaculture farms has been successful and is made possible by the generosity of donors.
Here’s a snap-shot of what’s been achieved:
- 9 farms from the various women’s groups were selected and trained on permaculture. The women were provided support for the creation of a model farm that aims to include a harmonious integration of human being, plants, animals and landscape (nature) providing food, energy, shelter and other sorts of material and non-material needs of people in sustainable way
- Women visited two model farms: Patlekhet and Sanga (Kavrepalanchowk District). The participants learned about various types of organic vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, ground apple, Kurilo, cucumber, pumpkin and mushrooms.
- Training for Permaculture included: shade management, urine collection, compost and liquid manure making, land improve, pot cleaning spot, water pond, kitchen waste management, organic vegetables farming, grass planting, and fruits planting.
- ASHA provided some materials for developing the model farm including skilled labor, cement, etc.
- Facilitated a farmer-to-farmer interaction workshop. Group members were able to share their views, experiences and discuss the Permaculture model farm
To develop the skills and infrastructure to make permaculture farming a success, ASHA needs the continued support of donors so they can provide materials and training to women farmer’s in Nepal. Thank you- your generosity goes a long way!

Learning Sustainable Agricultural Practices Benefits Women and Provides Income
By Gillian Wilson | Project Leader
With your support, ASHA is providing women with the knowledge, tools, and skills to improve their income generation through sustainable agriculture practices.
Project highlights include:
- Many farmers are moving away from chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and more towards organic farming methods.
- Women are more aware of the benefits of organic farming and community members are now searching for organic vegetables in the market.
- Income earned from trainings is helping women become more economically empowered and better able to provide for their families.
By donating to ASHA you are ensuring more women can benefit from this program.
Thank you for your support.
