TRAIN OF HOPE

Summary

We bought an old locomotive and a wagon. Now the train of hope is on its own tracks on the grounds of our recreation complex "Bernsteinsee". So, the train stands on the site where families with children suffering from cancer should recover and forget about this disease for a while. To make the stay more varied for the families and to offer activities also for bad weather, we want to make this train something special with a cinema and a great fitness area.

Challenge

Since more than two families usually seek recreation at the same time at our facility at Bernsteinsee, joint activities are becoming increasingly important. We have taken up the topic of sport, which is becoming more and more important in general, during and after cancer therapy, in order to give all family members the opportunity to be active regardless of the weather.

Solution

The effects of exercise for cancer patients have recently been increasingly studied in clinical tests. It has been shown that physical activity can measurably reduce the side effects of chemotherapy or anti-hormonal therapy. It also increases performance and boosts self-confidence - which can improve quality of life enormously. But that's not all: physical activity also has a direct influence on the development of cancer, the course of cancer and the risk of relapse.

Long-Term Impact

It thus makes its contribution to the prevention of cancer in primary, secondary and also tertiary prevention. In addition, sport can improve the quality of life during the disease. The long-term effect of the project is really significant.
