Greetings,
It is with great pleasure that I can report that you, our donors raised more than $5700 to fund our Zama Montessori effort. Congratulations and many thanks to all donors who made this happen.
As you might remember, Zama Montessori Centre was highly damaged by the pandemic, forced to shut its school in Daveyton, SA a terribly under resourced community to the east of Johanesburg, SA. Many of their donors stopped donating, many of their parents lost their jobs, and yet, while the school could not teach the children it could feed them. Faced with the dreadful choice of keeping its doors open during the pandemic or training a new elementary teacher, Zama Montessori Centre chose to keep its doors open, feeding the children. But that choice caused them to spend all the funds set aside to pay tuition, residence and travel costs for their new elementary teacher, a teacher desparately needed to continue teaching the rising elementary students.
The founder of Zama Montessori Centre has been the elementary teacher for many years, as well as overseeing the centre since its founding more than 30 years ago. It has been past time for her to retire from teaching.
Happily, MGGF has been able to fund the training of the new elementary teacher because of your gifts. Matshidiso has started her two year training program at Indaba Institute in Stellenbosh, SA. You have made a major positive impact on the lives of children who now may break many poverty barriers, and your gift will help free these children's infinite potential. Thank you.
