Zama Montessori School located in Johannesburg, SA has been serving impoverished children and their families for more than 30 years, helping many to break the cycle of poverty. The school embarked on training a young adult to become a Montessori teacher at the Indaba Institute to serve the elementary-age children. COVID19 wrecked their financial plan to pay for that training as families lost their jobs and donors stopped giving. This project will cover the gap created by the pandemic.
COVID-19 and the ensuing shutdown(s) in SA resulted in many parents losing their jobs such that they could not contribute to paying even a part of tuition at Zama Montessori. In addition, donors also stopped giving financial support to the school. These losses in turn caused the school to not be able to pay for the young woman's tuition, transportation, room and board costs for her to complete her Montessori elementary training at the Indaba Institute in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, SA.
This Global Giving project will cover the gaps caused by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, enabling the young woman to complete her certification in Montessori elementary training. The project will cover the balance owed for her tuition, transportation costs to and from the Indaba Institute in Stellenbosch SA from Gauteng, Johannesburg, SA, her living expenses while in training, as well as transportation expenses associated with completing her classroom training.
Once the young woman has completed her training, earning her certificate in Montessori elementary teaching, she'll return to Zama Montessori School in Gauteng, Johannesburg to teach elementary age children. Many of the children she teaches will go onto tertiary schooling boosting the educational level of young adults in the Gauteng, Johannesburg neighborhood and helping to break the cycle of poverty that consumes this neighborhood community.
