Goodwill Group Celebrates 10 Years of Empowering Thousands of Underprivileged Thai Women

By Potjamarn Bunkraisri | Development Director

For Immediate Release

Bangkok, Thailand (January, 2011) – The Goodwill Group, a private non-profit foundation dedicated to improving the quality of life of young Thai women via skills training and career services, marked its 10th anniversary on December 8th, 2010.

In its 10 years of operation, the Goodwill group has helped over 5,000 women. What began as an English language center now boasts more than 40 skills and vocational training courses, ranging from self-defense to cooking. After students complete their training, Goodwill Group career counselors provide support and interview training for better-paying jobs with better working conditions.

“Before I came to Goodwill, I never knew what I could do,” said Kitsana Kaewdee, a  domestic helper from Ubon who has taken English classes at Goodwill for five years, as well as computer training, cosmetology, CPR and financial planning. “Now, I know how to do many things and learning makes me feel good.”

The Goodwill Group officially celebrated its 10th anniversary at its Christmas/New Year party. More than 100 people attended the party, which featured games, food and a raffle. The annual event is the highlight of the year for most students.
