Our facilities, which are located in a very poor neighborhood of São Paulo, were broken twice by burglars in less than two months. The metal bars of the gate were sawn, computers were stolen and teaching material was damaged or stolen. Our clothing bazaar, which we use to raise funds, was also “visited”: shoes, clothing, accessories and toys were taken. The vandals also sprayed graffiti on the walls.
Following these events, we spent about USD 500,00 to install an electric fence on the surrounding walls of the facilities.
Despite these unfortunate events, activities are back to normal and we are so happy to see that our youths enjoy coming to our association to spend part of their day. Taking them away from the unfriendly environment of the neighborhood streets is in itself very rewarding. And on top of that they have a chance to learn something!
Here is what 10 year old ANA BEATRIZ said:
“Thanks to the classes I take at Danyann, I am able to improve my education and my behavior. I don´t have English lessons at school, so the classes I take here and the use of Internet are helping me improve my English. Also, the computing classes have helped me improve my skills with the Internet, which helps me a lot in the research that I have to do for my school work.”
We are replacing the stolen objects with donations, but we would appreciate your help to pay the expenses we had to incur with the electric fence!
Please help! TWENTY donations of only US$ 25,00 each WILL COVER THE COSTS OF THE FENCE.
Thank you all so much for your generosity!!
