Keeping The Kilifi Girls In Tech Pathway Open
This reporting period has been focused on keeping the Kilifi girls in tech pathway active while we continue to mobilise the resources needed to fully roll out the campaign. The original goal of this GlobalGiving campaign is to support 200 vulnerable girls in Kilifi with access to software development training, devices, connectivity, mentorship, and the learning support they need to complete the program.
At this stage, the full campaign-supported program has not yet rolled out because we have not raised the resources required through GlobalGiving to provide the additional support package for the targeted 200 vulnerable girls. Access to devices and connectivity remains the biggest barrier. Without this support, many of the girls the campaign was designed to reach are not yet able to participate consistently in online software development training.
Despite this gap, we have continued to support learning opportunities where access already exists. During this period, 76 girls were able to complete the program because they had access to the devices, connectivity, and learning environment required to participate. Their completion has shown us that the model works when the basic access barriers are removed. It has also reinforced why the campaign remains important for girls in Kilifi who have the interest and ability to learn, but not the resources to begin or stay the course.
Our next priority is to continue keeping the campaign active while building the partnerships and donor support needed to reach the original target of 200 girls. The need remains clear. With the right support, more girls in Kilifi can access software development training, build confidence in technology, and begin a pathway into digital work, innovation, and enterprise.
