Every minute, two people are killed because of conflict around the world. More violence is not the answer, and we believe in empowering local people to build lasting peace for their communities. With the help of our local partners in war zones, we will ensure 15 people have the skills and resources they need to build peace where they live, one person at a time. It costs $285 over 9 months to provide resources and training for someone to become a peacebuilder. Photo: Greg Funnell
Every minute, two people are killed because of conflict around the world. More violence is not the answer, and large-scale interventions are ineffective in building lasting peace. Communities are left torn apart, families forced from their homes, and young people left with few opportunities for their futures. We work with local organisations in Syria, DR Congo and 10 other countries where this is the reality for many people every day.
Ensuring lasting peace for a community starts with the people in it. We work with local organisations to provide training for local people, tailored to their needs, and that of their community. This could be training a young person in Pakistan about non-violence and religious tolerance, to pass on these messages to their peers. It could be helping a woman in Somalia driven from her home by militants, to start a business selling and tailoring fabrics so she doesn't face a life of begging.
Providing someone with the skills to build peace is just the beginning. These are skills that they can share with others, and one person at a time, help the whole community to become more stable and resistant to conflict and violence.
