The Magical Power of Play Appeal provide's essential play resources to sick children in hospital. By reaching our target of 7,500 we can provide three hospitals in the UK with one of our play resource boxes each. Play resources include; toys for medical preparation, sensory toys for children with special educational needs, a wide range of toys and games covering all age groups and genders plus vital electronic entertainment items.
When children are admitted to hospital they are at their most vulnerable. A visit to hospital can not only be a challenge, but also frightening and very traumatic, exceptionally so in emergency situations. The children are not only unwell, but they are also separated from their friends, family and familiar surroundings which can lead to increased stress and anxiety.
The gift of toys, play equipment and resources have many benefits to sick and seriouly ill children in hospital. These benefits include; increase the child's ability to cope with a hospital admission, reduce stress and anxiety, provide an outlet for feelings and frustration, help regain confidence and assist healing. Hosital Play Specialists will also be assisted when they are providing a child with preparation and distraction before and during painful medical procedures.
Play therapy is a VITAL addition to the medical care that the many thousands of sick children in hospital receive each year. These children will have an adequate supply of appropriate play resources that will aid their recovery and will empower them to turn a hospital admission into a positive experience. Hospital Play Specialists will receive vital support ensuring that the essential functions of play are built into the fabric of a child's hospital journey.
