Imagine working for two years to learn a trade and after graduation you take your certificate and head out looking for a job. Every employer says, “Congratulations on your certificate but where are your tools?” This is a common theme. No tools – no job! A simple set of tools can make a huge difference and change a life. We are getting closer to shipping the first container of tools to Haiti that will change lives . from perpetual poverty to productive citizen.
We had a good response from the first year of our Trick or Treat for Tools campaign. So we now have enough tools to fill a 20’ shipping container. This will go to the six Salesian Missions Vocational Schools in Haiti. Thanks for all the local donations during this drive. Volunteers will start working on this first shipment this month as the workshop is organized to do the tool cleaning and packaging with crates. We are making the crates out of donated plywood, pallets and lumber to keep costs low.
Envision a young man who has learned a new set of skills; who now receives a set of tools that enables him to become a productive member of his community. It is an opportunity to generate income and thus change the lives of his whole family. It’s not sexy or glitzy but it only takes one person to pull an entire family out of poverty.
Help us eliminate poverty one person at a time as we empower a few people to move from poverty to being productive citizens. Please donate generously.
Thank you.
