Our community home gardens are off to a great start. The heavy rains in September and October have allowed for easy plowing of the land to till the soil.
Our community gardeners were chosen from enthusiastic parent meetings in early November. We have the beginnings of 15 home gardens growing a variety of vegetables. They were issued with tools and seeds in November and with the rains and fertile soil, the gardens have already sprouted and producing results.
We are starting to see bumper crops of the morning glory, young spinach, long beans and winter melons.
The enthusiastic gardeners are starting to experiment with other crops. Our new coordinator Rithy Tevy is working with the community to see what other crops can be planted. We are also working with local hotels to sell our produce to them.
Most of the community is very excited to be able to produce pesticide free, organic gardens, using only natural fertilizer.
Thank you for your generous support with our gardens. This is the first step to a sustainable program.
