Music can benefit everyone physically, emotionally and socially. Music is the key to moving forward and thriving. This project will give 50 young children from South London music or singing lessons and access to our music groups and choirs for a whole year, when they would otherwise not have been able to afford to follow their musical dreams. BYMT is a charity with limited funding and has to find over 126,775 (around US$162000) each year to support 500 bursary students.
Covid-19, followed by the cost of living crisis, has forced many families into situations where some activities are no longer affordable. Young people from every background should have the opportunity to learn music - music changes lives, giving young people memories and skills that will last a life-time. After spending long periods in lockdown away from friends and family, the past year has affected the mental well-being of so many. We know that music helps with stress and life pressures.
Providing free music lessons gives hope and a lifeline to children so that they can continue making music. Bromley Youth Music Trust provides a safe, welcoming environment with high quality music tuition in which children can spend time being creative, co-operative and optimistic. We help our young musicians have a sense of belonging with the opportunity to make friends and achieve lifelong skills such as discipline, confidence, commitment and communication that will serve them in the future.
Taking part in musical activities is a hugely influential part of a child's education, development and general well-being. Nurturing the talents and commitment of our young musicians as part of our wider musical family enables them to become confident young adults reaching standards beyond their expectations.
