Thank you for supporting Ukrainian children with cerebral palsy! I would like to share the story of a little boy with you.
Ivan was born in January 2020, weighing 980 grams and measuring 36 cm in length. After a week of life, Ivan suffered a brain hemorrhage, which led to the development of hydrocephalus. He underwent surgery and had an Ommaya reservoir placed. For three months, the baby was intubated and fed through a tube as he could not breathe or eat on his own. At four months old, Ivan was transferred to "OKHMATDYT," where he underwent two endoscopic surgeries on his ventricles, followed by a third surgery to place a shunt. In July, the boy was finally discharged home.
By his first year, Ivan's development was delayed, and he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and hearing impairment. The child wears hearing aids. In early 2022, Ivan's condition worsened, with constant vomiting and drowsiness. It turned out that this was due to a malfunctioning shunt. Once again, it was back to "OKHMATDYT" for three surgeries over six months. In January this year, the shunt was replaced, and thankfully, Ivan began to improve. He started to better hold up his head and roll over.
Ivan underwent a course of comprehensive treatment at the "International Center for Rehabilitation and Neurophysiology" from July 1, 2024, to July 18, 2024, which included:
Neurologist consultation
Physical therapy
Massage
Corrective pedagogy
Speech therapy
Sensory room
Hardware massage
Despite the ongoing treatment, Ivan's condition remains challenging. He cannot sit, stand, speak, understand spoken language, and has difficulty with solid food. To improve his condition, he needs specialist care, but his mother does not have the funds for this.
This boy is in a very difficult situation and needs our support to afford further rehabilitation. Let’s help him!
