Tech & Smart Farming Across 10 Schools in Nigeria

We remain grateful for the support and visibility provided through GlobalGiving for the Tech & Smart Farming across 10 schools in Nigeria. The initiative was designed to equip students with practical agronomic and digital skills through school clubs while contributing to long term solutions to youth productivity and food insecurity.

Progress to Date
We successfully laid the foundations for implementation and procured internal branded items (caps and jackets) for societallens staff (with funds raised by the team). Partnerships were secured, including the commitment of plowAfrika to provide technical agronomic training. Clear school selection criteria were developed, and initial engagement with schools confirmed strong interest and readiness to participate. We already have our draft MoUs.

Implementation Challenge
Despite this progress, the level of donations received was not sufficient to commence the implementation of the project in at least a school. After a careful review of costs and expected outcomes, we determined that proceeding without adequate resources could compromise both quality and sustainability.

Current Decision
As a result, we will implement in school after school as we get the minimum resources needed to commence the project in a school. We plan to secure additional co-funding to maintain the intended scope and impact. The team is also contribting internally to support this course.

Next Step

As soon as we are able to finalize the sourcing of materials, formal engagement will commence.
