Plastic wastes are lying everywhere around us and creating havoc on the ecosystem - animals, humans & climate. Plastic has entered our food, water, air everywhere. ISKCON has joined hands with UNEP to fight this problem. The Tide Turners Plastic Challenge is a global youth movement, designed to inspire and empower young adults to reflect upon their plastic consumption, discover solutions to reduce this consumption, and lead change in their homes, communities, institutions, and offices.
In India, each individual consumes close to 11 kgs of plastic annually, a drastic figure. Plastic pollution is threatening life in oceans, other water bodies, and on lands. 1 million animals die every year due to plastic pollution, 1 million plastic bottles are purchased every minute which takes 400 years to decompose, 50% of plastics are used once and thrown forever. We are consuming 5gms of plastic every week through eating, breathing, and drinking. It's alarming and dangerous.
ISKCON is an Official Supporter of Tide Turner's Challenge to help solve this problem of plastic pollution brought forth by UNEP. Tide Turner's Program is a global youth movement where participants can help to reduce plastic pollution by simple steps. We will be reaching out to youths to make them aware of the problems of plastic and help them with simple steps on how we can reduce this consumption, and lead change in their homes, communities, institutions, and offices.
This challenge is targeting to reach more than 2 million youth in India. We are going to educate 50,000+ youths about the dangerous impact of plastic on the environment and the overall health of the planet. They get to earn UNEP's certificate, badges, and satisfaction for bringing a change. It inspires young adults to reflect upon their plastic consumption, discover solutions to reduce this consumption, and lead change in their homes, communities, institutions, and offices.
