This project will support over sixty orphaned and vulnerable adolescent girls in their final term of the school year in Zimbabwe. While our students' third term school fees are paid in full, our holistic approach to educating and empowering teenaged girls goes far beyond school fees to include uniforms, school supplies, menstrual supplies, mentoring, counseling, and more! Please join us in providing these essential services and transforming the lives of young women in Zimbabwe.
In Zimbabwe, adolescent girls are the demographic group at highest risk of contracting HIV, with an estimated 70% of new HIV infections occurring among teenage girls. School attendance is one of the best interventions in lowering a girl's risk of contracting HIV.
Tariro provides comprehensive educational support for adolescent girls, educating and empowering them to build a future full of hope. We work in the low-income, high-density neighborhoods of Glen Norah and Highfield, where the need is particularly great. In conjunction with school heads and social welfare officials, we identify orphaned and vulnerable girls whose families struggle to cover their school fees.
Women's education has long been recognized as a key factor in economic and human development, as well as in reducing the transmission of HIV/AIDS. Likewise, women's education is a critical factor in addressing climate change, particularly in terms of slowing global population growth rates. By educating and empowering young women, Tariro has a long-term impact on all of these global challenges.
