We are delighted to share a story from our project supporting differently abled youth in India. It is a story of resilience, hard work, and what becomes possible when a young person is given the right skills and the right opportunity.
Meet Ranjana Nahak
Ranjana Nahak is a young woman from Odisha living with a spinal cord injury. Like many persons with disabilities in India, she faced significant barriers to education, employment, and participation in community life. But Ranjana was determined to build an independent future for herself.
When she enrolled in Anudip Foundation's skilling programme for differently abled youth, that determination found direction. Through training in digital skills and workplace readiness, she gained both the technical capabilities and the confidence to pursue meaningful employment. Her perseverance paid off: she secured a position as an IT and Soft Skills Trainer, where she now earns a monthly salary of Rs. 23,000.
From the Classroom to the World Stage
Employment was only one part of Ranjana's journey. Alongside building her career, she continued to train and compete in athletics. This year, her dedication took her to an international stage: she represented India at the World Ability Sport Games held in Nakhon, Thailand.
Competing against athletes from across the world, Ranjana won two silver medals, one in the Women's Javelin Throw and one in Shot Put. Her achievement brought pride to her family, her community, and to everyone at Anudip who has been part of her journey.
What Ranjana's Story Means for This Project
Ranjana is not an exception. She is an example of what becomes possible when persons with disabilities are given access to quality skilling, personal mentorship, and genuine employment pathways. Her story reflects the core goal of this project: to enable differently abled youth to gain skills, access livelihoods, and pursue their aspirations with confidence and dignity.
Today, she stands as a role model for young people across India who face similar challenges. From securing a professional career to representing her country on the global stage, she has shown that disability does not limit ambition or achievement.
