In Romania, going to therapy is still a taboo subject, not only for children but for adults as well, and in the rural areas this is even worse. This happens although things have changed in the way families work. Parents work abroad or have jobs that occupy most of their time, and grandparents and families in general are no longer involved in the upbringing of children. As a result, it is harder to spot when something is going wrong.
Additionally, we have recently discovered that, compared to other countries, our teachers are not adequately trained to identify mental health struggles, which is something we would like to address in the future, at least in our local area.
Besides the children who have gone to therapy for issues like ADHD, Autism, loss of a parent, bullying, retard, the adolescent children who regularly participate in our activities asked if they could also have a group session weekly, to discuss what they are going through in this stage of life, what they are feeling and how to navigate it all.
