Dear Friends,
We are very delighted to share with you that all the 15 girls in our scholarship Program have remained in school this semester. We are indeed thankful for your partnership and regular donations that have enabled us to not only support these wonderful girls to access quality education, but more importantly ensure that they remain in school, develop as learners, and be on their path to transition to higher education and reach their fullest potential.
In Kenya, the school terms/semesters have been very intensive as the government and schools work to recover time lost during prolonged school closures due to the covid 19 pandemic. The traditional one to two month breaks have been reduced to a week or totally eliminated to ensure that students complete syllabus coverage and sit for exams allowing them to transition to the subsequent grades.
This means that our girls are staying in school for longer and need extra support to stay in school and learn. We expect more girls to graduate and transition to high school in April and November 2022 when they sit for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education Examinations and this will triple the number of girls in our scholarship program and bring the total to 45 next year. We are committed to partnering with you all to raise the much needed funds to give these girls an opportunity to access high school education and realize their dreams.
Through our Hold A Girls Hand Initiative, we continue to support these girls by giving them stationery, school uniforms and shoes, free sanitary pads and psychosocial support in order to reduce early and unplanned pregnancies which are largely caused by transactional sex for food and other basic needs when the girls’ families are unable to meet these needs.
Thank you so much for your commitment to walk this journey with us and ensuring that we can support our girls by addressing these crucial barriers which often hold them back from achieving their fullest potential.
