As one of two directors of this small nonprofit, we are dedicated to providing quality and affordable (free) dance classes to underserved residents (children and adults) of our communities in Chicago. Over the past few months, we have had many fundraising efforts to create a safe, danceable space to continue hosting our dance classes. We have held an 8-week free, modern dance class. With those classes, we held a free performance for parents, family, and friends to see what the students learned. The program was so successful that we are planning our winter program for January!
In addition to the classes, we hosted a dancewear giveaway. We partnered with local dance stores and other community programs to give hundreds of dance clothes to aspiring dancers across Chicago.
We continue raising funds to renovate our studio with new, sprung floors, mirrors, and ballet barres. Our classes and professional rehearsals are currently hosted in a gym with hard floors. Though it is still a space for our dancers, it is not the most suitable area, but it still allows us to achieve our mission. Our vision is to create a space where the community can feel safe expressing their artistic creativity and moving in a way that brings peace.
