Since we started our fundraising efforts, 773 Dance Project has made strides toward our goals. One of the major projects we are working on to get our classes started is renovating our dance studio with new floors, mirrors, dance barres, and cubbies for the students. Until that is completed, we will host dance classes in the gym adjacent to our studio.
With our class series starting in two weeks, we have had several prospective students and teachers. Since we want to offer these classes for free (or donation-based if participants feel led), we must fundraise to pay our teachers. At 773 Dance Project, we believe in offering fine arts for free while still being able to pay those who facilitate the arts a livable wage.
Once the series begins, the need does not end. Most professional-level performances and classes in Chicago are located on the North side or downtown Chicago. Meaning if anyone from the South side would like to attend, they would have to take multiple forms of transportation in addition to the cost of attendance. For many interested individuals, they need help to engage.
