LabSocial is a training and collective learning space for 40 young people committed to transforming their communities in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. Through workshops, mentorships, and funding, we equip pairs of youth with the tools they need to actively participate in and find solutions to the issues affecting their lives. With this proven and replicable program, young leaders will promote the well-being of their communities, contributing to social development in southern Mexico.
There are 1.75 million young people in the Yucatan. Half of this population faces significant social inequalities that restrict their capacity to organize and engage in decision-making processes regarding critical issues like the preservation of traditional cultural practices, climate change, and sexual and reproductive rights. Without access to training, funding, or inclusive spaces, their voices remain hidden, and their potential to drive meaningful change with cultural pertinence is limited.
LabSocial is a platform that strengthens the young leadership that works for more just and dignified communities. How do we do it? We support their initiatives in addition to pairing them with local mentors to foment community cohesion. Each youth becomes agents of change through specialized training, project design, civic participation, and advocacy. In addition we provide seed funding for their projects. This comprehensive approach fosters their leadership and their impact in the region.
LabSocial builds a network of young leaders driving social development across the Yucatan Peninsula, giving them a platform to propose ideas and leverage their talent for creative solutions. Through a replicable, cascading model, participants bring knowledge and tools back to their communities, fostering long-term change and strengthening social backing and cohesion for lasting impact.
