Since January 2026, the Palestinian Circus has been bringing “The Wonderland” to children across the West Bank. Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, the show was created and performed by Palestinian artists to offer children a space of joy, imagination, and wonder, a space that, for many, is unlike anything they have experienced before. Through acrobatics, storytelling, and whimsical characters, The Wonderland transforms any stage into a world where anything is possible.
Between January and July 2026, the Palestinian Circus delivered 17 performances, reaching around 6000 children across schools and community spaces in Ramallah, Jericho, Jenin, Hebron and Bethlehem.
Throughout the program, we have adapted the show to meet children where they are, both practically and safely. Some performances took place outdoors, requiring us to adjust the performance and present disciplines suited to open spaces. In other cases, due to the security situation and the need to prioritize children's safety, our team travelled directly to communities rather than bringing children to the circus tent. These adaptations reflect our commitment to reaching every child, regardless of the circumstances on the ground. As a result, we expect the total number of children and community members reached to exceed our original targets.
Each performance is more than a show. For the children who attend, The Wonderland offers a rare moment of safety and possibility, a chance to laugh, to dream, and to simply be children. In a context where stability and joy can be hard to come by, the circus becomes one of the few spaces that is predictable, safe, and entirely theirs, whether under a tent, in a school hall or in the open air. The response from audiences has been overwhelming, with children and adults alike leaving visibly moved by the experience.
All performances are offered free of charge to children and their communities, made possible entirely by your generous support through GlobalGiving.
As we move into the second half of 2026, we remain committed to our goal of 50 performances and 7,500 children reached by the end of the year, and we are grateful to every donor who is making that possible.
