We are pleased to report the successful completion of our project, The War Seen Through Our Eyes, which documents the personal experiences of 17 Ukrainian families through interviews recounting the beginning of the war and their journeys to Hungary, the country they chose as a place of refuge and protection.
The main outcome of the project is a trilingual book in Ukrainian, English, and Hungarian, illustrated with drawings created by Ukrainian children participating in our educational programs.
We are delighted to have completed the book’s design and layout and published 100 copies. These copies have been distributed to major libraries throughout Hungary. We also plan to send copies to the Library of Congress in the United States and to other prominent public and academic libraries in different countries, ensuring that these personal testimonies reach a wider international audience.
In the coming months, we plan to organize a public presentation of the book, during which several of the families who participated in the interviews will have the opportunity to share their memories and reflections on the first weeks of the war.
The successful completion of this project would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, members of the Association for Ukraine’s Hope (Ukrán Remény Egyesület), who conducted and recorded the interviews; the talented children who created the illustrations, supported by their art teachers; and, above all, our friends and sponsors in Budapest and beyond. Their financial support enabled us to cover the costs of the book’s design, layout, and publication. We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to bringing this project to life.
As the support received through your foundation was complemented by contributions from other generous sponsors, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who helped make this long-awaited project a reality. After more than three years of fundraising, we are delighted to have finally brought this project to completion, thanks to the collective support and commitment of all those who believed in its value.
We believe that The War Seen Through Our Eyes will help readers in Hungary, across Europe, and around the world better understand the human cost of war and appreciate the value of peace, security, and a peaceful life. By preserving these personal stories, the book gives a voice to Ukrainian families and helps ensure that their experiences are not forgotten.
Alongside our work on the book, we continued our practical support for Ukrainian refugee families by distributing children’s footwear and pet food provided by a Hungarian charitable foundation.
