The Village Tree Nursery is a collaborative project between Just One Person and Ematende Women's Group. Sales proceeds are shared by the Women's Group and JOP's Mpowerment Programs for girls in Kenya.
Every year, hundreds of small nonprofits working in developing countries are forced to shut their doors when donor funding suddenly runs out. When they do, local staff, program participants, and community members all lose resources and support that are vital to their economic welfare. The Village Tree Nursery combines community involvement and financial sustainability to ensure that our programs will successfully and independently continue to provide benefits for future generations.
Working with the Ematende Womens' Group, we are planting 32,000 indiginous seedlings on a small plot donated to JOP. Seedlings are harvested every 3 months and are sold to individuals, institutions and the Kenyan govt for reforestation projects.
The Tree Nursery is a sustainable, income generating model providing long term financial support for JOP girls' programs, for the women of Ematende village AND regenerates Kenyan forests, while promoting community committment to girls' education.
