Help the people who pick the tea that keeps you going through the bad times, warms you up when it is cold and is at the centre of any family celebration. We are encouraging supporters to collect change every time they have a hot drink. Donations will help us bring high quality education to 320 young people and 2,100 children from some of the most isolated and hope-hungry communities in Sri Lanka.
The social systems that exist in Sri Lanka mean that it is nearly impossible for tea-picking families to progress, move up in society and build a better life. If you are a tea-picker, you are right at the bottom of the barrel.actually you are below the barrel and you stay there, because that's your place. As there is no way out, many people turn to alcohol and substance abuse. This gives rise to domestic and sexual abuse of women, which leads people to self-harm and suicide.
We create change by improving the employability of youth and their choice of (self) employment options outside the tea estates by facilitating the development of high-standard English language and professional skills. In the face of significant and multi-layered problems in these communities, we are committed to, and facilitate, the development of the emotional health of young people to enable them to strengthen their positive coping strategies and resilience to enable them to lead change.
Young people become employable, emotionally resilient and capable of leading positive change within their communities. We will support 350 f/t students in 2020. These full-time students will, in turn, run holiday activities for over 3,000 children and deliver individual service projects for over 40,000 community members. After they graduate, over 80% of alumni will gain ethical employment and build a better future for their families. Our alumni suicide rate is < 5% of the national rate
