May is "Teacher Appreciation Month" and 12+ would like to recognize all of the incredible teachers we have the privilege of working with. During this campaign, we will be asking supporters to make donations in honor of their favorite teachers by using the "Gift in Honor of" function on GlobalGiving. A portion of the funds that we collect will be used to create a "Teacher Fund," through which teachers at our partner schools will have the chance to sponsor events for their students!
In the wake of this year's mass teacher layoffs in Philadelphia, there has been a palpable dampening in morale across schools. Teachers have had to face increasing pressure as school environments have become more demanding with growing class sizes and course loads. In recent years, these teachers, whose profession involves the noble pursuit of imparting knowledge and building character, have been dealt a difficult hand in an already difficult educational climate.
This campaign aims to spread positivity and hope. We are asking supporters to pair their donations with a tribute to their favorite teacher, which can be in the form of a simple "Thank You" or a letter of gratitude. Through these notes, our hope is that we will honor those who have dedicated their lives in service of our youth. A portion of all donations will go toward a "Teacher Fund," which will empower teachers in our partner schools to spend as they see best on their students!
12+ is in the business of changing culture. Our hope is that this initiative will restore some of the hope that was lost during these difficult times in Philadelphia. 12+ works with over 800 students across two schools. Our work would not be possible without the support of the teachers with whom we work, and we hope that through this campaign, we will strengthen our solidarity as we tackle the education gap together.
