The YouthSpark Bonus Day is Here!

Dear Friends and Family,

We have great news! The June 25^th Bonus Day is here and Afrika Tikkun will be participating to raise funds for the Sustainable Future Project!

The Microsoft YouthSpark Bonus Day will begin June 25, 2014 at 12:00 PM (noon) and will end June 26, 2014 at 11:59:59 (EDT). There are $200,000 available in matching funds from Microsoft.

Matching is applied at 100% for every donation from $10 up to $1,000 per donor until matching funds run out.

This project will be instrumental in breaking the vicious poverty cycle that affects all those living in South African townships by empowering youth to utilize different life skills that will enable them to become productive citizens in society.

Please support us during this bonus day challenge because it is the highest matching Bonus Day of the year. All donations are important and add up. In this case, all donations are worth double.

Afrika Tikkun's New Project

THE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE PROJECT

We are very excited to share this new project with you. The Sustainable Future Project is focused on breaking the vicious poverty cycle by empowering youth and their families by providing services for nutrition, education, life skills training, and essential computer skills training to enter the job field.

These programs keep our youth off the street and allow them to develop in a safe environment, preventing them from partaking in illegal or harmful activities. Once our beneficiaries complete these programs, many return to Afrika Tikkun as volunteers or employees. This creates a new cycle of building a Sustainable Future.

It is because of you that we are able to empower youth to break the vicious poverty cycle. Thank you for your support and we look forward to continuing this partnership in our new venture.

The Story of Simphiwe

Simphiwe is a 20 year young man born on 13/08/1993 his mother passed away in 2007. Simphiwe does not know about his father’s whereabouts and he never had a relationship with him. He stays with his sister and he came into contact with Afrika Tikkun in July 2013 under the City of Johannesburg Child Headed Households program. Simphiwe completed his matric in 2012 and he passed with an admission to a diploma. In 2013 he enrolled in the Job Readiness program at our Afrika Tikkun center in Orange Farm and he graduated in November 2013. Before joining Afrika Tikkun, Simphiwe was at risk of heading in the wrong path as his friends were a bad influence on him and at that point would lead him to drinking. After the Job Readiness program and having been placed on our database Simphiwe has been called to attend several interviews by various companies. In March Simphiwe conducted an interview with Incredible Connections and he was offered a six month job contract to work as a sales/promotions person. He is currently doing well in this position and has been able to take care of his younger sister who is also enrolled in our Afrika Tikkun Child and Youth Development Program.
