Hello supporters!
Because of the pandemic, the Sustainable Culinary School has adapted over and over again to meet the needs of this strange time. For this report, though, we have the pleasure of updating you on a very normal topic: how the school’s courses are going.
In this past quarter, the Sustainable Culinary School offered four courses: Commercial Savory Snacks, Sweets and Desserts for Parties, Chocolate, and Cakes and Pastries. A total of forty women, all residents of the greater Bom Jardim neighborhood, participated in these courses.
The take aways? High quality education, a skill set that helps these women find employment (or start their own businesses) so that they can support themselves and their families, and an opportunity for the women to get to know themselves better and boost their self-esteem. Bom Jardim suffers from high levels of poverty, unemployment, and poor health outcomes. The Sustainable Culinary School is reversing these trends, empowering its residents and setting up future generations for success.
Ms. Ezidan took both the Cakes and Pastries and the Commercial Savory Snacks courses. Completing these courses was a dream come true — a dream she never thought would come true. Ms. Ezidan has long run her own business in Bom Jardim, but she didn’t have any formal training or community to help her. With certifications and a cohort, Ms. Ezidan now has the confidence and the skills to grow her business.
Thank you for your support. We are breaking the cycle of poverty one student, one course, one cake at a time.
