Hello GlobalGiving supporters!
We know that the start of 2022 has been tough for many people. Hopefully, our update today can bring you a little hope about the state of the world and the difference you can make in it.
In the first trimester of 2022, the Sustainable Culinary School graduated 60 students; that’s 60 people who now have the skills and certification to secure employment in the food industry or start their own businesses. Congratulations to all graduates!
The Sustainable Culinary School offers specialized courses, and today’s photos are from our three savory foods courses. Students don’t just learn how to make delicious food; they also learn about food safety and business skills, such as learning the cost of making food, how to price the final products, and how to determine their profit margins.
The pandemic dramatically increased the need for the Sustainable Culinary School. Many more people lost their jobs and became unemployed because of the pandemic. The Sustainable Culinary School stepped up to train more people, thereby enabling more people to provide for themselves and their families. What a boost to their self esteem and mental health!
The Sustainable Culinary School is also proud to support at least three of the United Nations’ Sustainability Goals: (4) quality education; (5) gender equality; and (8) decent work and economic growth. The Sustainable Culinary School is free for students and provided certification through the Federal University of Ceará. The majority of students are women and the school prepares students for regular, respectable work that promotes students’ economic independence and fosters the growth of new businesses. A win all the way around!
Muito obrigada (thank you) for helping the Community Mental Health’s Sustainable Culinary School to have the capacity to meet the need for more services because of the pandemic and create a healthier environment in the Bom Jardim neighborhood of Fortaleza, Brazil.
