Hello GlobalGiving community!
We are still looking for our first donors for our new project, the Sustainable Culinary School. To show you yet another aspect of the project’s magic, today’s report focuses on a recipe book that the school is producing.
A little context first: Padre Rino (Father Rino), the founder of MSMC, is from Italy originally and many years ago he brought his parents to Brazil to live with him and help with MSMC. His father unfortunately passed away last year, but his mother, Clemenza, is still alive and well and very engaged in the Sustainable Culinary School! Just last month, she taught a class on how to make “Mamma Mia” lasagna. The recipe will be included in a recipe book that the school is producing.
The book is being produced in partnership with the Cultural Center of Bom Jardim and the Federal University of Ceará, whose students teach the culinary classes. Professor Eveline de Alencar, who teaches Social Culinary at UFC, explains that the “book is an activity that integrates two courses: photography and street food.” The book will focus on local foods, and will include not only recipes, but also the history behind each recipe, nutritional information, and photos.
We will be excited to tell you more once it is all done. In the meantime, we hope to have your support in building this project that is empowering community members while taking care of the earth!
