10 Years of Dreams

10 years of transformation
10 years of transformation

Dear friends and supporters,

April marked a milestone we've been working toward for a decade: our school turned 10 years old. What began as a small house with 45 students has grown into a school of 440 students today. It's been a journey full of challenges — but also of deep rewards, and this year gave us two of the biggest yet. Listen to the song we wrote to celebrate our anniversary here.

We now legally own the land where our dream began. This year, we finalized the purchase and officially signed the deed for the property where La Fontaine has operated for these years. This is the same site where The School of Our Dreams will rise — meaning the space our students, teachers, and families have called home is now permanently, legally ours and we are now in the architectural design stage.

Our students are also stepping into leadership in ways that inspire us every day. Last year, they began taking the lead of major school initiatives — including English Day, a full student-led production where they write the story, create the characters, design the costumes, and run the marketing themselves as a fundraising event for the school. Their creativity and ownership of this event is something to see.

That same spirit of leadership carried our story onto a global stage. In May, Teacher Lily was invited to Singapore to speak at the Better Future Forum, hosted by Teach For All, alongside 200 education leaders, policymakers, and educators from around the world — sharing La Fontaine's journey and what our community has taught us about the future of education being led by students.

Our students are getting their own global experiences too. In February, Jhoselyn and Haider traveled to India for an international leadership exchange. And tomorrow, Ian leaves for a two-week leadership, soccer, and English immersion program in the United States — we can't wait to share his story in full in our next report!

Looking ahead, 2027 will bring one of our proudest moments yet: our first graduating class — 18 students completing grade 11 and beginning their next chapter. Some are already finding their path as entrepreneurs, others as artists and athletes, and many are preparing for university. Ten years ago, this moment was only a dream. Next year, we'll watch it happen together.

With the land now secured, the next step is building. Our goal this year is to raise the first $100,000 needed to officially break ground on The School of Our Dreams. Help us tell more people about the good news coming out of Siloé, Cali — and help us turn this land into the school our students have dreamed of.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

With gratitude,

Teacher Lily
