The Reading Competition brings university students across Lebanon together to read, discuss, think critically, and speak confidently. Now in its second year, your support helps make the competition possible-from participant preparation and training to event logistics, coordination, materials, awards, and gifts that celebrate students' achievements. Donate today and help us create a meaningful stage where young people can turn their love of reading into ideas, dialogue, and confident voices.
University students in Lebanon are surrounded by fast-paced digital content and constant information, but often have limited opportunities for deep reading, meaningful discussion, critical thinking, and public speaking. Reading can become an academic task rather than a shared experience that inspires dialogue & personal growth. The Reading Competition addresses this gap by creating a space where students engage with books, exchange ideas, and develop the confidence to express their voices.
The reading competition creates a structured journey through four stages, each evaluated by a qualified panel of judges. Participants choose books from a diverse recommended list, giving them the freedom to select topics that interest them and develop their own perspectives. At every stage, they read, reflect, discuss, and present their ideas. This process turns reading into an engaging experience while strengthening critical thinking, dialogue, confidence, and public-speaking skills.
The Reading Competition aims to foster a lasting culture of reading, critical thinking, dialogue, & confident communication among university students. By engaging students year after year, we seek to build a growing community of young readers who carry these skills into their universities, careers, & communities. Building on Alemni's work since 2012 & its regional competition experience in 2018, our long-term vision is to grow the competition from a Lebanese initiative into a regional platform.
