Millions of children in Pakistan have never stepped into a classroom. Poverty, distance, and social barriers keep them out of school for life. Through One Room Schools, the Global Education Campaign (GEC) brings education directly to these children by turning a single safe room into a classroom. With your support, children who have never held a pencil will learn to read, write, and count, opening the door to opportunities for 3000 children and a future they never thought possible.
Pakistan is facing an education emergency. According to UNICEF, 25.1 million children aged 5-16 are currently out of school. Many live in remote or underserved communities where schools are too far away, unsafe to reach, or socially unacceptable. Families struggling to survive often have no choice but to put work before education. When children miss their early learning years, they are more likely to face lifelong poverty, child labor, early marriage, and social exclusion.
The One-Room School model brings education directly into communities. This project will create 100 One-Room Schools, each serving 30 out-of-school children, reaching 3,000 children across Pakistan. Classes take place in a safe room provided by the community. Through an 18-month Accelerated Learning Program (ALP), children learn basic reading, writing, and math, helping them re-enter the education system and move toward formal schooling.
The long-term goal of this project is to break the cycle of illiteracy and poverty by providing out-of-school children with foundational literacy and numeracy skills that open pathways to formal education, vocational opportunities, and improved livelihoods. By strengthening community-led education systems and scaling a low-cost, culturally appropriate model, the project aims to reduce exclusion, promote gender equity and contribute to Pakistan's progress toward universal literacy.
