Iris House was founded to provide much needed free respite care for special needs children & young adults , with life limiting & life threatening conditions in the Western Cape, as well as support for families both emotionally, practically & holistically. Our service extends to 31 communities & supports 372 children & families, many in underprivileged areas. We ensure parents never feel "alone" providing community sits & hospice sessions as well as many additional programs and therapies.
The special needs community, especially those in our poorer under resourced communities are segregated & isolated. They receive very little in the way of support from government. Parents need to fight for any services which often come at a price far beyond their reach. They have limited access to quality schools, care centres, support & therapies are often unobtainable due to cost. Our family centered approach benefits the entire family. Simply put other than ourselves no such service exists
Iris House provides quality, free holistic care, support and therapy services, ensuring the whole family benefit & quality of life for all is improved. Resulting in better communication, movement & nourishment of special needs children, happier homes and parents equipped with the necessary skills support & resources to cope with the demands of raising a special needs child. Services include: Respite Care, equine therapy, expanded literacy program, surfing, parent support groups & wellness events
Our services promotes & facilitates a more tolerant & socially acceptable society throughout the Western Cape providing families and communities with the tangible skills necessary to ensure that despite their special needs they have full access to essential services and resources at no charge. Our focus on holistic care & support ensures parents of special needs children are able to lead full lives, and creates an environment where special needs children can reach their full potential.
