For 10 years, The Light Center's mission has been to give hope and support to vulnerable pregnant women, to provide foster care for children waiting to be adopted, and to protect and restore victims of sexual abuse. Our vision is to support strong and healthy families in Thai society. Mother's who can raise their own children. Foster children who live in safe and loving families. Justice and a new future for sexual abuse victims.
Thailand has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in Asia, which has led to many broken and separated families. Infants abandoned or given up for adoption often remain in institutions until they are adults without receiving the love and attachment they need. Young mothers are often rejected by their families or sent to Bangkok to find work separate from their children, where they are at risk of being trafficked.
Our prevention and awareness program partners with the Thailand Department of Social Development & Welfare, schools, and hospitals to promote healthy relationships, teen pregnancy awareness, and human trafficking prevention. By providing foster care for infants waiting to be adopted, we are reducing the number of infants going to institutions and proactively working with adoption agencies to help children be placed in forever families.
Families are the fabric of society. If we can promote healthier families, Thai society will be a safer and more vibrant place to raise a family. Through prevention and providing educational opportunities to young mothers (including scholarships), we will reduce the number of teen pregnancies, reduce the number of children going to institutions, and prevent sexual abuse and trafficking from happening in the first place.
