Challenge

Domestic violence increased by 120% in 2020 and today, years later, this number is still very high and even higher in families in vulnerable situations that are unaware of the new sensitive and loving parenting practices, and do not know how to face the challenges of being parents. They educate their children in the same way they were educated, repeating the same patterns of violence. Primary caregivers have few parenting skills and this project contributes to develop this skills.

Solution

We work with fathers, mothers and their children (0-3 years old) with a pedagogical model of sensitive and loving parenting, in an environment of respect and free of violence. The project provides workshops once a week for parents and children, which reinforce spaces for positive interaction, activities for adequate emotional management and stress reduction strategies. In addition, parents develop parental skills in positive parenting and are accompanied in their emotions.

Long-Term Impact

The most effective way to stop forming people with the propensity to violence is to ensure infants are reared in an environment that fosters their development of empathy. The best way to achieve this is by supporting parents in developing attunement with their children. These workshops reinforce the parental skills and knowledge of mothers, fathers and/or primary caregivers and children will grow up in a non-violent environment and in the future will be non-violent adults.
