CREATE A YOUTH-SPACE FOR SLUM DWELLERS IN ABUJA

Knowledge Management Series at YouthHubAfrica

The YouthHubAfrica Hub started playing host to Young Nigerians from within Abuja and most importantly from Mabushi Village through its Monthly Knowledge management Series. 

The Knowledge Management program is based on the following:

  1. Master Classes: Short, Snappy, one-day training that expands on a particular topic. The purposes of master-classes will be to provide expert knowledge for practitioners on a particular area
  2. Workshops: This will usually be training that lasts more for 2 - 5 days providing intense training for people in a particular area
  3. Mentorship Sessions
  4. Governance Discussions
  5. Online Training

 The following events happened in the second half of 2018: 

  1. Friday 31 August 2018: Designing and Implementing Effective Advocacy Strategy. This training was led by Mr. Edwin Ikhuoria (ONE Campaign)
  2. Sep 15, 2018: Productivity and Work Ethics Training with Nelson Bassey and Uzoma Agbanyim
  3. Friday 5th October 2018: Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director for Nigeria Center for Disease Control had a 1 hour season with young people on how to win  the battle against Infectious Diseases in Nigeria
  4. Friday, November 16, 2018: The European delegation to Nigeria Deputy Ambassador  Richard Young had a season with young people at the Hub on the topic “To leave or to Stay: Nigeria’s growing trends on Illegal Migration”
  5. 8th and 9th of November 2018: DR. Susan Stewards facilitated a 2-day Organisation Workshop (OW) for 20 young people

The Knowledge management program has reached 260 young people in 5 specific Knowledge management series events in the second half of 2018. Young people are more aware and better prepared in case of another epidemic outbreak such as the outbreak of the dreaded Ebola disease etc; they have a better knowledge of what it takes or means to be productive and imbibe a healthy and progressive work ethics; know how to start an advocacy in their communities ; know the pros and cons of migration, and why illegal migration will not help in any way; and how to be a better part of a society, organisation and community.
