Built on the 6-pillars of self-confidence, income generation, education, health, early pregnancy, & safety, The Girl Impact (TGI) is a gender equality project in Zambia, Tanzania, & South Africa which provides workshops, health resources, educational opportunities, & income generating activities to girls & women in the communities we work with. Further, we empower boys & men through workshops focused on topics such as gender-based violence & the importance of keeping their daughters in school.
Our project focuses on girls between the ages of 11 & 18; a crucial time when a girl's future potential & opportunities can develop through education, & social support, or be suppressed by the effects of child marriage, early pregnancy, HIV & other preventable hardships. Out of the world's 130 million out-of-school youth, 70% are girls. Every woman & girl has the right to education, health, & protection from violence & abuse. But we can only make a real difference once boys & men understand too.
TGI provides girls with a brighter future not only by providing them with opportunities, but by ensuring the boys & men around them see the value of healthy, educated & empowered local women. Every adolescent boy also has the right to education, health & protection from violence & abuse, but not at the cost of a girl's. With on ground staff & volunteer support, we can ensure that projects are having a positive & long-lasting impact through program management & evaluation.
Girls and boys are our future women and men. Our goal is to see girls, boys, women and men working together to close the gender gap that still exists in many African countries, and show how education and proper support can uplift families, communities and entire nations. When 10% more girls go to school, a country's GDP increases by an average of 3%!
